Diablo 4: How to Complete the Shifting City Dungeon
Aug-07-2025 PSTLocation & Preparation
Region: Kehjistan
Recommended Level: 50+ (World Tier III or higher for best loot)
Before entering, ensure you have:
High crowd control resistance or cleanse mechanics.
AoE (Area of Effect) skills for dealing with large groups.
Strong single-target burst for elite packs and the final boss.
Potions upgraded at the Alchemist.
Sigils (if running it as a Nightmare Dungeon).
The dungeon is maze-like, with tight corridors, shadowy ambushes, and arcane traps. Build mobility and AoE-heavy setups thrive here, particularly Necromancers, Sorcerers, and Rogues with trap/evasion builds.
Stage 1: Entering the Forgotten Tunnels
After entering Shifting City, you’ll descend into the Forgotten Tunnels, a dimly lit network filled with Fleshblights, Scavenging Ghouls, and Tormented Cultists.
Objectives:
Slay all enemies in the tunnel system (100%).
Tips:
Take your time sweeping each wing; enemies hide in alcoves.
Elites here can cast Shadow Bolts that slow and weaken.
Prioritize Carrion Horrors — they explode on death and wipe groups.
Sorcerers: Use Teleport to reposition away from exploding mobs.
Barbarians: Leap and Charge are great to close gaps quickly.
Once the 100% kill count is reached, the barrier to the second chamber will collapse.
Stage 2: Collect Ancient Sigils
In this phase, your goal is to collect three Ancient Sigils from the haunted sub-chambers and slot them into the Sigil Pedestal in the central hall. Each sigil is guarded by a mini-boss.
Sub-chambers and mini-bosses:
Crypt of Smoke – Guarded by Dreadshroud Illa, who teleports and casts fear.
Hall of Fractures – Guarded by The Bone-Spike Colossus, dealing heavy bleed.
Vault of Whispers – Guarded by Sister Vaelra, who curses your skills on hit.
Mini-Boss Strategy:
Dreadshroud Illa: Stay mobile. Break fear with Unstoppable effects.
Bone-Spike Colossus: Dodge ground spikes. Use ranged to avoid bleed stacks.
Sister Vaelra: Cleanse curses if possible. Kill adds quickly.
Tip: These mini-bosses drop Rare and Legendary gear—make sure to loot carefully before leaving each wing.
After obtaining all three sigils, return to the central room and interact with the Sigil Pedestal to unlock the final chamber.
Stage 3: Defeat High Arcanist Faelwen
The final encounter in Shifting City is against High Arcanist Faelwen, an ancient spellcaster corrupted by demonic energies. This boss fight has three phases, each introducing more punishing mechanics.
Phase Breakdown:
Phase 1: Elemental Barrage
Faelwen casts fire orbs that rotate around her.
Arcane bolts track slowly; kite around corners or dodge them.
Tip: Get in close after each barrage to punish her during cast downtime.
Phase 2: Mirror Clones
Faelwen summons three mirror clones.
Only one is real; others deal fake (but annoying) damage.
Destroying the real Faelwen progresses the phase. Use AoE and watch for her unique cast animation (a lingering purple sigil).
Phase 3: Void Collapse
Room darkens, and Faelwen becomes ethereal.
She fires void beams that sweep the room — standing in them causes stacking silence + burn.
Use movement skills to reposition quickly between beams.
Health potions are crucial here; don't overextend when low.
General Tips:
Don’t stay in the center — spread out to minimize AoE overlap.
Rogues: Shadow Step behind clones to detect the real one.
Druids: Cyclone Armor helps reduce elemental damage and knockback.
Upon victory, Faelwen drops:
Guaranteed Legendary or higher loot (based on World Tier).
Chance at Unique item (in World Tier IV).
Dungeon completion gives +Renown, XP, and potential Aspect unlock if running it for the first time.
Rewards & Aspect Unlock
Shifting City Dungeon grants:
+30 Renown in Kehjistan.
Codex of Power Aspect (varies by season and rotation).
Gold, Obols, and a high chance of sacred or ancestral gear.
In certain seasons, this dungeon also features in Seasonal Objectives, Whispers of the Dead, or Helltide events, giving it extra incentives.
Pro Tips & Build Suggestions
Solo Play: Ranged characters like Sorcerer or Rogue make the dungeon easier to kite through the tight corridors.
Co-op: Assign each player a sub-chamber in Stage 2 for speed runs.
Speed Farming: Use Nightmare Sigils that modify this dungeon for better loot density and glyph XP.
Nightmare Modifiers to Avoid Here:
Exploding enemies (corridors are too tight).
Suppressor elites (locks out ranged builds).
Resource Burn (bad for Sorcerer, Necromancer).
Final Thoughts
The Shifting City Dungeon tests your ability to adapt to multiple enemy types, puzzle-style objectives, and buy Diablo IV gold boss pattern recognition. It’s an excellent dungeon for players looking to push their builds to the limit, especially when done in Nightmare or Endgame Sigil versions.
Master it, and you’ll not only reap high-value rewards but also gain an edge in World Tier farming, Glyph leveling, and seasonal objectives.
